5 basic (but important) SEO tips

Here’s a few things you’ll want to keep in mind as you are optimizing your website to show up on page one of Google’s search results.  These basic tips are basic (duh), but they are also essential your long term success in SEO, be it for you own website or a clients.

  1. Commit to  studying SEO.  Search engine algorithms are always changing, the strategies that worked last year may not work this year.
  2. Be patient. SEO takes time (read: usually months) There are rarely instant results in SEO, and the newer your website, the longer it might take.
  3. Take advantage of Google Webmaster tools. Sign up for Google’s webmaster Central and Yahoo’s Site Explorer to learn more about how the search engines see your site, including how many inbound links they’re aware of.
  4. Create a new e-mail address specific to your website -  This is especially important for link building.  (ie Doug@getonpage1ofgoogle.com  NOT getonpage1ofgoogle@gmail.com)
  5. Google loves what  people love-  Make this your mantra.,  always keep this  in mind when optimizing your website.  If your website has quality, relevant, useful  content and user friendly navigation, the odds of you ranking higher in the search engines are increased immensely over those how don’t take the time to think of their websites visitors.

Blog Commenting helps SEO

by Page1 on February 14, 2010

“How do I get more back links?”

This is a question I’m asked quite often. Well there’s probably a million ways if you use your imagination! One (fairly) quick and easy way to get links to your site is by blog Commenting.

What’s a blog comment anyway?

At the end of each article or page of a bog there is an area where you can leave a comment that looks something like this: Blog Commenting for SEO

  1. The first field you see is “Name:”  This is where you want to include your Keywords.    Note: If you Stuff your name with keywords there is a good chance your post might get deleted, so be sensible.
  2. Simply fill out the rest, your email, URL and of course, your Comment.

SEO Friendly Title Tags

by Page1 on February 12, 2010

How to Create SEO friendly Title Tags What is a title tag? Ok, so what is a title tag?  Let’s cover that first!  The title tag is the blue text you see in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) How to write a title tag: There is debate over how long or short your title should be. Since Google only displays the first 66 or so characters (with spaces), Your best bet would be to keep it under 66 characters and relevant to the content on the page If you want to be on the first page of Google’s search results, you must include your keywords in your Title tag, ideally before all other words in the title. Do not repeat your keywords in the Title, Google and the other search engines see this as spam.

Here’s an example of good Title: <title>Window Cleaning in Portland, OR</title> <title>Bob’s Window Cleaning</title> On the other hand, would be a BAD title because very few people will be searching for your exact business name. I see this far too often though… CHANGE YOUR TITLE TAGS!!!
